Over 2.5 million Afghan migrants have returned from Pakistan, IOM

KABUL: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) says more than 2.5 million Afghan migrants have returned from Pakistan to Afghanistan between September 15, 2023, and June 30, 2026.

According to the organization’s latest report, 1,692,147 Afghan nationals have returned from Pakistan since April 1, 2025 alone.

The IOM said that fear of arrest and challenges related to migrants’ legal status in Pakistan have been among the main factors driving the large-scale returns.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate’s High Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Problems reported that 616 migrant families returned to Afghanistan in a single day.

Officials said the repatriation process is continuing and that efforts are underway to address the returnees’ needs in various sectors.
