HERAT: Provincial officials of Herat say that more than 10,000 square meters of handwoven carpets have been exported to Germany since the beginning of the current calendar year, with a total value of $103,000.
According to a statement posted by the Herat governor’s office on X, Herat’s carpets are highly valued in international markets for their high quality, traditional craftsmanship, and authentic designs, making them one of Afghanistan’s leading export products.
“Supporting the carpet industry, facilitating production, and expanding access to domestic and international markets remain key priorities of the provincial administration,” said local officials adding that these efforts are expected to boost exports, expand target markets, and strengthen the global position of Herat’s carpets.
The carpet industry is one of Herat’s most important economic sectors, contributing significantly to local income while providing direct and indirect employment opportunities for thousands of people.
