KABUL: Afghanistan and Uzbekistan signed 22 commercial agreements worth more than $200 million during the Afghan-Uzbek Business Forum held in Kabul, aimed at strengthening economic relations and expanding bilateral trade.
According to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the forum brought together senior officials from both countries and representatives of the private sector.
Addressing the event, Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to expanding economic ties with Uzbekistan and expressed hope that bilateral trade would increase to $5 billion. He also encouraged Afghan and Uzbek investors to take advantage of investment opportunities in Afghanistan.
Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev emphasized the importance of strengthening economic cooperation, facilitating trade, and developing commercial infrastructure between the two countries.
The ministry said the forum concluded with the signing of 22 commercial Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Afghan and Uzbek private-sector representatives, with a combined value exceeding $200 million.
In recent years, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have worked to deepen economic and trade relations by expanding transit links, encouraging investment, improving regional connectivity, and increasing bilateral trade, with joint business forums serving as a key platform for fostering new commercial partnerships.
