KABUL: The Economic Commission, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, has approved a plan to expand the capacity of Sher Khan Port to strengthen trade with Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China.
During the meeting, the commission approved measures to expand the port’s infrastructure, extend Sher Khan Port’s operating hours in coordination with Tajikistan, and allocate funding for the construction of a new logistics center.
The commission also tasked the Ministry of Public Works with establishing the necessary facilities inside Afghanistan to activate the ECO railway corridor.
In addition, it approved the transfer of scrap metal from several state-owned enterprises to the National Development Company for the production of standard reinforcing steel bars (rebar) to be used in government infrastructure projects.
The commission further approved 37 national standards and 12 proposed testing methods submitted by the Standards and Quality Authority.
