KABUL: Fazl Mohammad Saber, acting ambassador of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to Turkmenistan, in a meeting with Ivan Tonkikh, a representative of Russia’s Railway Administration, discussed expanding economic and transit cooperation, developing railway networks, and facilitating customs procedures at Afghanistan’s border ports.
According to the Afghan Embassy in Turkmenistan, the Afghan side briefed the Russian official on investment opportunities in Afghanistan, including in the industrial, agricultural, commercial, and other sectors.
The embassy said the Russian side welcomed the expansion of the North–South Transport Corridor, as well as plans to reduce customs tariffs and improve trade facilitation at the Aqina and Torghundi border ports.
The Russian railway representative also expressed support for cooperation in the relevant sectors and said he plans to visit Afghanistan in the near future to hold talks with Afghan officials and relevant institutions on the development of the country’s railway network.
During the meeting, both sides also emphasized strengthening Afghanistan–Russia relations and expanding continued cooperation across various sectors.
