KABUL: Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, said that an understanding between Iran and Oman on establishing a new maritime route is unrelated to the reopening or closure of the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the strategic waterway “will not return to its previous status.”
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, discussions between Tehran and Muscat on the Strait of Hormuz and the creation of a secure maritime route have been underway for some time.
Baghaei said Iran and Oman, as neighboring coastal states, cooperate on the management and security of maritime routes based on their shared responsibilities.
His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump recently claimed that Washington halted planned military strikes against Iran after Tehran proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
