KABUL: The Ministry of Water and Energy has signed an agreement worth nearly $2 million with the Japanese PMS Organization to finance and implement water-related development projects.
According to a statement from the ministry, the agreement was signed by Minister of Water and Energy Mawlavi Mohammad Younus Akhundzada and a representative of the Japanese organization.
The ministry quoted Akhundzada as saying that the agreement would support the expansion of water infrastructure, improve water resource management, and contribute to better agricultural conditions.
Under the agreement, water projects worth nearly $2 million will be implemented in Spin Ghar district of Nangarhar province, with construction expected to be completed within two years.
The ministry said the projects include the construction of 10 check dams, three reservoirs, three diversion weirs, three canals, and the reconstruction of one karez (traditional underground irrigation system).
