KABUL: A 500-kilogram unexploded bomb was discovered in the courtyard of a house in the Askar Kot Bazaar area of Qarabagh district in Ghazni province and was safely removed from the area before being destroyed.
The Mine Action Coordination Directorate of the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority said a resident had reported a potential threat through the emergency hotline.
Following the report, a rapid-response team from the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) mine-clearance organization was dispatched to the area and in coordination with Ghazni’s disaster management authorities, the team carried out an operation to destroy the unexploded ordnance.
During the operation, a 500-kilogram Russian-made OFAB-500 bomb was discovered in the courtyard of a house in Seer village, Askar Kot Bazaar and was safely removed from the populated area and destroyed.
Officials said destroying the bomb prevented a potentially serious threat to residents, including possible casualties and property damage.
Authorities have urged residents not to touch or approach mines, unexploded ordnance, or other suspicious objects and to notify the relevant authorities immediately if such items are discovered immediately.
