UNAMA: Security situation improved in Afghanistan global community should continue engagement

KABUL: The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has said that Afghanistan has witnessed an improvement in its security situation and a reduction in armed conflict over the past five years.

In a statement marking the fifth anniversary of the return of the Islamic Emirate to power, UNAMA described the halt in poppy cultivation and the creation of opportunities for reconstruction, development and economic cooperation with regional countries as among the positive developments during this period.

UNAMA also called on the international community to continue its principled and pragmatic engagement with Afghanistan and to support the country’s long-term development and recovery.
