KABUL: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for Afghanistan, says Washington should expand its engagement with Afghanistan, arguing that disengagement has created a geopolitical vacuum that could provide opportunities for hostile groups and U.S. rivals.
Speaking to The National News Paper, Khalilzad said that after five years of Islamic Emirate rule, Afghanistan’s security and economic conditions are better than had been expected.
He also highlighted infrastructure development, support for the agricultural sector and the expansion of regional diplomacy as notable developments in Afghanistan.
