KABUL: A mine-clearance team has discovered and safely destroyed a 500-kilogram Soviet-era bomb in Ozan village, located in Firoz Nakhchir district of northern Samangan province.
The Disaster Management Authority said the unexploded bomb was discovered after a resident alerted authorities.
A rapid-response technical team from the DAFA demining organization, in coordination with Samangan’s disaster management authorities, traveled to the area and safely removed and destroyed the unexploded OFAB-500 ShR bomb.
Officials said the safe disposal of the bomb prevented a potentially serious threat to residents.
Mine-clearance authorities urged residents to avoid touching or approaching mines, unexploded ordnance, or other suspicious objects, and to notify the relevant authorities if such items are found immediately.
