KABUL: The Panjshir governor has stated that there are no political prisoners in Panjshir’s central prison, where 59 people are currently being held, the governor’s media office said in a statement today.
Panjshir Governor Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim, in a meeting with Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs said that all inmates are being held in connection with criminal or civil cases.
During his visit to Panjshir, Hanafi inspected the provincial prison and spoke with inmates about their living conditions, concerns, and the treatment they receive from prison officials.
Hanafi pledged to follow up on the prisoners’ concerns and recommendations.
The visit was aimed at assessing the overall condition of the prison, addressing inmates’ problems and monitoring the provision of services and treatment of prisoners.
