KABUL: Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced the signing of a contract for Block Three of the talc mine in the Shinwar area of Spin Ghar district in Nangarhar province, valued at $4.5183 million.
The ministry said in a statement that the contract was signed by Minister of Mines and Petroleum Mullah Hedayatullah Badri and Omar Farooq, head of the Talc Processing Company and will covers an area of 6.75966 square kilometers.
According to the ministry, the contracting company will pay the government a royalty of 1,320 Afghanis for every metric ton of talc extracted.
Badri said the agreement would create job opportunities and expand economic activities for local residents.
Meanwhile, Omar Farooq pledged that mining operations at the site would be carried out in accordance with mining principles and procedures.
Talc is a soft, white mineral widely used in various industries, including the production of paint, paper, ceramics, plastics, and cosmetics.
