KABUL: Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s former special representative for Afghanistan, has described the decision to expel Afghan students from Pakistan as “shocking” and urged Islamabad to reverse it.
Durrani said Afghan students who have continued their education despite difficult circumstances could see their academic aspirations and future put at risk if they are forced to leave their universities.
He stressed that Afghan students, particularly those receiving scholarships from the Pakistani government, should be allowed to remain in the country and complete their studies.
Durrani’s call comes as Islamabad’s recent measures concerning the future of Afghan students are being taken at a sensitive stage in relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
