Afghan, Iranian officials discuss farm machinery, seeds and silos

KABUL: Mawlavi Mohammad Nabi Bahar, spokesman for Afghanistan’s General Directorate of State-Owned Companies, says the directorate’s head, Mawlavi Ahmad Jan Bilal, met with Iran’s Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri during an official visit to Iran to discuss expanding agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

According to him, in the meeting, Nouri expressed Iran’s readiness to cooperate with Afghanistan in importing agricultural machinery and equipment, improved seeds, poultry feed and day-old chicks.

The Iranian agriculture minister also pledged cooperation in rehabilitating Afghanistan’s silos and, if needed, constructing new ones.

Mawlavi Bilal, meanwhile, emphasized the need for coordination to implement bilateral agreements, strengthen the agricultural sector and expand economic and trade relations between Afghanistan and Iran.

Bahar added that during his visit, Bilal is also expected to meet with a number of Iranian officials and representatives of development and economic institutions.
