Kidney transplant services to expand in Kabul

KABUL: Officials of the Ministry of Public Health say kidney transplant surgery services will be expanded in Kabul in the near future, according to Radio Omid.

Wahdat Alkozai, head of the ministry’s Curative Medicine Department, said patient safety and care, alongside treatment, are an important part of healthcare services.

Speaking at an event marking World Patient Safety Day, Alkozai said the number of non-communicable diseases is increasing worldwide, and Afghanistan has also been affected by the trend, according to Radio Omid.

He said the Ministry of Public Health is working to provide healthcare services more equitably across the country and to increase the number of hospital beds nationwide to around 10,000.
