KABUL: Afghanistan’s Ministry of Urban Development and Housing says a project to transfer clean water from the Sayad water source to New Kabul City is currently being assessed and technically designed to meet the city’s water needs.
The ministry said in a statement that a water transmission route of about 55 kilometers is being planned to transfer water from Sayad to New Kabul City.
According to studies by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the water demand for the first four phases of New Kabul City, along with Kabul’s 17th district and Sheikh City, is estimated at around 7.34 cubic meters per second.
The ministry said its technical team is assessing the water source, extraction methods, and the proposed transmission route. The water abstraction capacity from Sayad is estimated at around 6.3 cubic meters per second if an infiltration gallery system is used.
The project is being developed as part of the New Kabul City development plan, with the aim of establishing a sustainable, long-term water supply for the city.
