KABUL: Former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has criticized Islamabad’s policies toward Afghanistan in response to remarks by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Khalilzad wrote on X that Pakistan’s policies toward Afghanistan over the past 30 years raise questions about Sharif’s commitment to the well-being of the Afghan people.
He added that Pakistan’s treatment of Afghan refugees is among the policies that have contributed to such concerns. UNHCR continues to report significant returns of Afghans from Pakistan, including both voluntary and forced returns.
Khalilzad made the remarks after Sharif addressed issues related to Afghanistan in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
