KABUL: The Afghanistan Journalists’ Safety Committee marked World Access to Information Day by holding a gathering.
An Omid Radio reporter quoted Jamil Waqar, head of the Afghanistan Journalists’ Safety Committee, as saying that efforts are continuing to address existing challenges in journalists’ access to information and facilitate the exchange of information between journalists and government officials.
Waqar said that, as part of these efforts, meetings were held with journalists in around 25 provinces across the country over the past week.
He stressed that improving journalists’ access to information and creating better opportunities for them to obtain information from government officials are among the measures being pursued to address existing challenges.
World Access to Information Day is observed annually on September 28. UNESCO proclaimed the day in 2015, and the United Nations formally recognized it in 2019.
