Russia-Afghanistan trade grows 2.5-fold in seven months

KABUL: Trade between Russia and Afghanistan increased 2.5-fold in the first seven months of 2026 compared with the same period last year, the Russian government’s press office said.

Sputnik reported that Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk discussed expanding economic, trade and energy cooperation between the two countries during a meeting with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi.

The talks also covered cooperation in trade, energy and investment, as well as the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

The two sides agreed to continue government-level discussions on joint projects and expand relations and contacts between traders and economic representatives from both countries.
