KABUL: Mullah Abdul Haq Hamkar, Chief Executive Officer of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, stressed the need to accelerate completion of the remaining work on the CASA-1000 project and secure additional financial resources at meetings of the project’s Joint Working Group and Intergovernmental Council in Kyrgyzstan.
In a statement, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat said representatives of member countries, the World Bank, and other financing institutions attended the CASA-1000 Joint Working Group (JWG) and Intergovernmental Council (IGC) meetings held in Bishkek from October 7 to 9.
Discussions focused on progress in construction, the installation and completion of telecommunications systems and repeater stations, the project’s operational readiness, and the allocation of responsibilities for monitoring, operation, and maintenance.
The Afghan delegation emphasized the need to secure additional funding to complete the outstanding work. In response, World Bank representatives assured participants that they would assess the possibilities for providing the required financial resources.
Hamkar said CASA-1000 holds strategic importance for expanding regional electricity trade, stressing that accelerating implementation, removing existing obstacles, and putting joint decisions into practice should be treated as priorities.
The CASA-1000 project was designed to transmit electricity from Central Asia to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Once completed, it is expected to strengthen Afghanistan’s role in regional electricity trade and transmission.
