Russian Deputy Prime Minister to visit Afghanistan soon

KABUL: A high-level Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk will soon visit Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president’s special representative for Afghanistan, said.

Kabulov announced on Friday on the sidelines of a joint meeting on regional security, saying the visit aims to expand trade and economic ties between Afghanistan and Russia and hold talks with Afghan officials.

He said a large Russian delegation, led by Overchuk, would travel to Afghanistan to strengthen bilateral economic and commercial ties.

The exact date of the delegation’s visit has not yet been officially announced, according to the report.

The planned visit comes a week after the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service visited Kabul and held meetings with several senior Afghan officials.
