KABUL: Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has ordered the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran to be closed indefinitely.
Al Jazeera, citing an Iraqi government official, reported that several other border crossings with Iran are also expected to be gradually closed in the coming days.
No official explanation has yet been provided for the decision.
Iraq and Iran operate several border crossings that play an important role in trade, travel and the movement of goods between the two countries, underpinning their economic ties.
