Britain to deploy fighter jets to protect Saudi cities and critical infrastructure

KABUL: The British Ministry of Defence has announced that Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets will carry out defensive missions to help protect Saudi Arabia’s cities and critical infrastructure from aerial attacks.

According to the ministry, the deployment is intended to help defend Saudi Arabia against potential attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement.

The British government stressed that the fighter jets will operate in a defensive capacity and will not conduct offensive strikes against the Houthis.

The additional support will also include an RAF A400M transport aircraft to move military supplies within Saudi Arabia, British military advisers, and an extension of air-to-air refuelling support for Saudi defensive air operations.

The move comes amid growing regional security concerns and efforts to protect Saudi cities and critical infrastructure from missile and drone attacks.
