Two oil tankers catch fire in Strait of Hormuz

KABUL: Two large oil tankers have exploded and caught fire after reportedly striking a sea mine in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, citing the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported that the two tankers were carrying more than 4.5 million barrels of crude oil. Their crews abandoned the vessels following the incident.

The incident comes amid a recent increase in reports of Iranian attacks on oil tankers and commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

These incidents have heightened concerns about the stability of global energy markets and the potential for further increases in oil prices.
