KABUL: Pakistan’s Karachi Port Customs has put hundreds of containers carrying goods belonging to Afghan traders up for auction.
BBC Dari reported that images released by an auction company show containers owned by Afghan traders being opened and their contents displayed to potential buyers.
According to the report, the auction was attributed to heavy taxes and charges incurred as the containers and commercial shipments remained stalled at Karachi Port.
The report said Afghan Chamber of Commerce officials have described Pakistan’s move as contrary to regional and international trade regulations.
However, the exact number of containers belonging to Afghan traders that remain stranded at Karachi Port has not been specified in the report.
