U.S. approves $2.1 billion sale of 500 Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine

KABUL: The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 interceptor missiles to Ukraine, valued at approximately $2.1 billion.

In a statement issued on Friday, the department said the purchase would be financed through contributions from Canada, Germany and Norway, as well as Ukrainian national funds supported by the European Union’s Ukraine Support Loan.

The approval comes as Ukraine faces growing demand for air defence systems amid intensified Russian attacks. Lockheed Martin is the principal contractor for the proposed sale.
