Washington ready to play constructive role in resolving tensions between Kabul and Islamabad

KABUL: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Washington is prepared to play a constructive role in resolving the ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Rubio made the remarks in response to a journalist who asked how the United States viewed the conflict between the two countries, noting that Washington had helped bring an end to conflicts in several other countries.

While expressing Washington’s readiness to help, Rubio provided no further details about the nature of any potential role or the steps the U.S. might take.

The remarks come amid continued tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.

The Islamic Emirate has accused Pakistan’s military of carrying out attacks on civilian areas in Afghanistan in recent years, rejecting Islamabad’s justifications for the strikes.

The Islamic Emirate has also launched retaliatory attacks in response.
