Araghchi: Iran’s seven-day Plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz reduced to two days

KABUL: Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi has said that his country’s proposed seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz has been shortened to two days.

Under the revised proposal, the strait would reopen on the second day if the United States accepts Iran’s conditions on the first day.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Araghchi said discussions on the proposal were continuing through Qatari mediation, but no final agreement had yet been reached.

He added that reaching an agreement would depend on the other side’s responses to Iran’s questions.

Araghchi also said there had been no plans to hold talks with U.S. representatives during his recent visit, adding that the Islamic Republic was prepared for both defence and diplomacy.

His remarks come as several more oil tankers have come under attack in the Persian Gulf, including one carrying Qatari gas.

The incidents have drawn widespread condemnation.
