BAZARAK: The local officials in Panjshir province said that 2,209 carats of the province’s emeralds worth $146,300, have been sold through bidding, the governor’s press office said in a statement on Wednesday.
The emeralds were sold at a bidding ceremony held in the governor’s hall, attended by dozens of local investors, said the statement.
According to the statement, since the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, the legal extraction and free sale of emeralds from Panjshir mines have provided job opportunities for thousands of individuals.
In the past three years, emeralds extracted from Panjshir mines have been sold transparently through bidding sessions, in contrast to the previous administration.
Recently, two Indian traders have presented a proposal for investment in the emerald mines of Panjshir to the provincial authorities.
