U.S. ceasefire proposal in Gaza; Hamas announces conditional agreement

KABUL: Following the announcement of a 60-day ceasefire plan in the Gaza Strip by Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Representative for Middle East Affairs, Hamas has expressed its conditional agreement to the proposal.

In response to the plane, on Saturday night, Hamas said in a statement that it is willing to release 10 living Israeli captives and return the bodies of 18 deceased prisoners, but in exchange, it demands a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and guarantees for humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza.

A member of Hamas described the U.S. proposal as positive yet called for amendments to it.

Meanwhile, both the Israeli government and Steve Witkoff have deemed Hamas’s demands unacceptable.

This comes as the Gaza Strip, due to an economic blockade and restrictions on humanitarian aid imposed by the Israeli regime, has been labeled the “hungriest” place on Earth by the United Nations.
