KABUL: Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan, has announced that a “Moscow Format” meeting will take place with the Islamic Emirate’s delegation as a full member within the next two to three months.
Kabulov made the remarks in an interview with the Russian state-run TASS news agency, published on Tuesday night.
While he did not specify the exact date for the meeting, he emphasized that it is expected to occur in September or October of this year (2025).
Currently participating in UN working group meetings in Doha, Qatar, Kabulov stated that discussions have taken place with regional partners and Russia’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Dmitry Zhirnov, regarding the likely content of these consultations and the coordination of joint actions, confirming Afghanistan’s participation as a full member in the “Moscow Format.”
The Moscow Format is a multilateral regional meeting aimed at dialogue about Afghanistan, initiated by Russia and held since 2017. The sixth round of this meeting took place on October 4, 2024, in Moscow.
