Russian courts fine Google $347.7 million over four years

KABUL: Courts in Russian have fined Google a total of 27.3 billion rubles, (some $347.7 million), over four years.

According to Russian state-run TASS, a news agency, Google has been recognized as owing this amount due to fines and other penalties imposed by Moscow’s courts from 2021 to 2025.

In addition to this, 35 other enforcement actions have been taken against Google, valued at over $19 million.

TASS did not specify the reasons for the fines.

However, published information indicates that the penalties stem from Google’s failure to remove “forbidden” content as required by Russia, violations of data laws mandating that user data be stored on domestic servers, and the promotion of political and anti-government content.
