KABUL: Former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe, who has faced judicial scrutiny for years, was sentenced to 12 years of house arrest by a court in Colombia.
The court found him guilty in a bribery case and ruled that Uribe must also pay a fine of over $500,000. Additionally, he will be barred from holding any government positions for the next eight years.
Uribe, who served as president from 2002 to 2010, has reacted to the ruling, stating that he will file an official appeal against it.
His case has been under investigation by Colombian judicial authorities for the past 13 years.
