KABUL: For the first time, an exhibition of “Kufi” calligraphy from the first century Hijri titled “Jalwe Qalam” has been opened today in the center of Herat province.
According to the organizers, the exhibition was organized by the Herat Department of Information and Culture in collaboration with the Calligraphers’ Association of the province and will run for four days.
Sayed Shamsuddin Noorizaad, one of the organizers, stated that 45 pieces of Kufi calligraphy are on display.
He added that the exhibited works reflect styles from the early Islamic centuries and have been created over the past three years.
The purpose of the exhibition is to honor the legacy of “Master Mahmood bin Isaak Shahabi,” a prominent calligrapher of the first century Hijri.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors and calligraphy enthusiasts in the “Alama Salahuddin Saljuki” hall for four more days.
