KABUL: Dr. Mohammad Naeem Wardak, the Deputy Minister for Finance and Administrative Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated during a meeting with Ted Chaiban, the Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), that the education and health of children are priorities for the Afghan government.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, head of information and public relations of the ministry said in a statement on Monday that in the meeting Deputy Minister also emphasized the importance of providing humanitarian services for refugees, collecting and caring for orphaned children, offering educational facilities, and assisting families of impoverished children as additional priorities for the Afghan government.
He mentioned the allocation of land to Afghan returnees and called for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities toward them.
Wardak urged international organizations to give serious attention to the issues faced by Afghan returnees from Iran.
The UNICEF head praised the efforts of the Afghan government and assured that the organization would continue its support in areas such as education, housing, agriculture, and other sectors.
According to the statement, both sides discussed children’s rights, polio campaigns, returning refugees, health, education, and various humanitarian and social issues during their meeting.
Additionally, Afghan officials expressed their commitment to supporting mothers for the safety of children during the Global Breastfeeding Week celebration.
