China rejects U.S. request to halt oil purchases from Russia and Iran

KABUL: China’s Foreign Ministry said that the country will continue to purchase oil from Russia and Iran, rejecting the United States’ request to cease these transactions.

This statement follows two days of negotiations between China and the U.S. in Sweden.

International media reported that Beijing has prioritized its energy security and economic interests, stating that it will not succumb to Washington’s pressures regarding oil purchases from Russia and Iran.

The ministry emphasized that China will always ensure its energy supply in a way that serves its national interests, asserting that coercion and pressure will yield no results.

Previously, the U.S. government warned that if China continued to buy oil from Iran and Russia, it would impose a 100% tariff on goods from China.

China remains one of the largest buyers of oil from both Iran and Russia, and it appears that U.S. efforts to persuade China to halt these purchases have been unsuccessful.
