KABUL: The Arab-Islamic Ministers’ Committee has expressed regret over the U.S. decision to revoke visa issuance for the Palestinian delegation to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to the Qatar Tribune today, the committee has urged the U.S. to reconsider and reverse this decision.
The report emphasizes the importance of adhering to commitments outlined in the UN Charter, providing opportunities for dialogue and diplomacy, and supporting the Palestinian National Authority’s positive positions and its sustained commitment to the strategic option of peace.
The committee highlighted the necessity of supporting the Palestinian government and Mahmoud Abbas in advancing governmental reforms and commitments made to global leaders to promote peace and combat violence, extremism, and terrorism.
Furthermore, the Arab-Islamic Ministers’ Committee warned that weakening the Palestinian government would hinder ongoing peace efforts amidst escalating crises, violence, and the continuation of conflict.
This comes as the U.S. State Department recently revoked the visa for the Palestinian delegation led by Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority, to attend the UN General Assembly, which is set to take place in September in New York.
Some Western countries are expected to formally recognize Palestine during this session.
