OCHA allocates $10 million aid for earthquake victims in Eastern Afghanistan

KABUL: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that $10 million has been allocated from its joint fund to assist the earthquake victims in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan.

The OCHA reported on Friday night, this aid package is for those affected by the devastating earthquake in the region.

Tom Fletcher, head of OCHA, deemed this assistance insufficient, emphasizing that, given the severity of the disaster, more resources are needed for effective management of the situation.

He stated, “However, this is not enough. Failure to gather resources now will mean deeper suffering and more lost lives, especially with winter approaching quickly. Donors have previously acted for the people of Afghanistan—we need such action again.”

OCHA also noted that recent earthquakes and their aftershocks have caused further death, injury, and destruction in the earthquake-affected areas.

This comes in the wake of another earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale that shook Kunar province again at 10:00 PM last night.
