Reactions to UN General Assembly’s resolution on two-state solution for Palestine and Israel

KABUL: Following the adoption of the two-state solution resolution regarding Palestine and Israel by the United Nations General Assembly, the move has triggered global reactions.

The resolution was passed on Saturday night, Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, welcomed the adoption of the resolution, considering it a positive step towards achieving peace and stability in the region.

On the other hand, most European countries also welcomed the resolution and expressed their support for it.

Some European nations have previously recognized Palestine as an independent state, while others plan to do so during the current General Assembly session.

In contrast, Israel, the United States, Argentina, Hungary, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, and Tonga are among the only ten countries in the world that opposed this resolution.

The UN General Assembly’s resolution includes “concrete, time-bound, and irreversible steps” toward a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel.

It was adopted with broad support, receiving 142 votes in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions.
