KABUL: Nearly two weeks after the devastating earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Education has announced that this natural disaster has impacted 200,000 students and learners.
According to a statement from the ministry on Saturday, at least 268 students lost their lives and 862 others were injured in the recent earthquake in Kunar province alone.
The statement highlighted that the earthquake has severely damaged numerous educational institutions in the eastern provinces, creating significant obstacles for the education process.
It noted that a large number of students are struggling with psychological and physical issues, necessitating urgent psychological support and the reconstruction of educational facilities.
The Ministry of Education, citing local officials, emphasized that immediate actions must be taken to continue the education process in the eastern regions.
This follows a catastrophic earthquake that has claimed the lives of over 2,200 people, injured more than 4,000, and destroyed thousands of homes.
