KABUL: Following the rejection of a draft to continue the suspension of UN Security Council sanctions against Iran, the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, in a meeting chaired by President Massoud Pezeshkian, has warned that it will suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported on Saturday night, that the council emphasized that despite the resumption of cooperation between the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the IAEA, which was agreed upon last week in Egypt, the path for this cooperation will be suspended.
The Supreme National Security Council has instructed the Foreign Ministry to continue its negotiations within the framework of the council’s decisions while safeguarding Iran’s national interests.
The decision to suspend cooperation with the IAEA was reportedly made in response to the “ill-considered actions” of Germany, the United Kingdom, and France.
On Friday night, the UN Security Council rejected a draft resolution aimed at continuing the suspension of sanctions against Iran, known as the “snapback mechanism.”
