Guterres expresses concern over martyrdom of dozens of people during prayer in El Fasher, Sudan

KABUL: Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, in a post on his X account has expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in El Fasher, located in North Darfur, Sudan.
Following reports from the UN indicating that dozens of worshippers were killed and injured during an attack on a mosque in El Fasher last Friday.
The UN Secretary-General stated, “I am deeply concerned about the rapidly deteriorating situation in El Fasher, North Darfur, and the increasing risks faced by civilians trapped in the area.”
He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, protection for civilians, and access to humanitarian aid.
Additionally, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the drone attack on the mosque in El Fasher, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of innocent Sudanese worshippers, characterizing it as a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
According to UN information, the El Fasher area has been under siege by forces known as the Rapid Support Forces for approximately 500 days.
