Khalilzad: U.S. has no intention to seize Bagram Air base

KABUL: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. envoy for Afghanistan, has described reports concerning the “Bagram Air Base” as inaccurate.
In a post on his X account, Khalilzad stated that many misconceptions have been spread regarding potential security cooperation between the U.S. and Afghanistan in the future.
He added, “There has also been misinformation regarding the use of Bagram Air Base for potential joint counter-terrorism operations.”
According to Khalilzad, the United States does not wish to take control of Bagram from the Afghan people or link it to its operations.
This statement comes amidst remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump over the past three days regarding the potential seizure of Bagram Air Base, which has prompted strong reactions from senior officials of the Islamic Emirate.
