KABUL: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has pledged during his video address to the United Nations General Assembly that presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in the country one year after the current conflict concludes.
Abbas expressed gratitude to those countries that have recognized the State of Palestine and urged support for full membership in the United Nations.
He strongly condemned the October 7 attacks by Hamas and emphasized that the Palestinians aim to establish a non-armed state based on peace. He stated that Israel must halt its settlement activities, end its annexation policies, and establish a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
President Abbas added, “Humanitarian aid must be urgently delivered to Gaza, and I thank Saudi Arabia and France for their initiatives, which play a crucial role in garnering international support for Palestine.”
He made it clear that his country is ready to cooperate with the United States, Saudi Arabia, and France for the implementation of a peace plan and called on Israel to return to the negotiating table.
