Uzbekistan’s Energy Minister: Peace and stability in Afghanistan are vital for all regional countries

KABUL: Jorabek Mirza Mahmudov, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, has stated that peace and stability in Afghanistan are “vital” not only for his country but also for all neighboring countries and the region.

In an interview with Uzbekistan 24 TV, Mahmudov emphasized that ongoing stability in Afghanistan would pave the way for his country’s access to the world’s open oceans.

He added, “If peace is established there in the future and the economy and infrastructure develop, Afghanistan could serve as the shortest transit route to the global ocean for us. This would enable us to utilize our capacities for economic growth and expand transit opportunities.”

According to Mahmudov, the sincere approach of the Afghan people toward Uzbekistan is clearly evident in every discussion.

He mentioned a recent meeting with Mullah Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, who expressed his willingness to meet with the President of Azerbaijan. Mahmudov noted that he saw genuine affection for Afghanistan and its people in Baradar’s eyes, words, and current actions.

These remarks come in the wake of a recently signed 25-year contract for oil extraction at the “Tutimeidan” site in northern Afghanistan, showcasing the depth of political and economic relations between the two countries.
