KABUL: According to Indian and Pakistani media, a police training center in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has come under attack by several armed individuals.
The Indian Express reported that the attack occurred on Friday night, and that the assault was initiated by 7 to 8 armed men following an explosion at the entrance gate of the police facility located in the “Dera Ismail Khan” valley.
Although the clash between the attackers and Pakistani security forces lasted for several hours into the night, the casualty figures reported are inconsistent.
Some reports, citing security sources, claim that 50 Pakistani police personnel have been killed in the attack.
Special police and army operations have been launched to contain the situation.
However, security and government officials in Pakistan have yet to provide statements regarding the attack or the number of casualties.
As of now, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the assault. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has previously been a site for attacks by members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) against the country’s military forces.
