Trump expresses optimism about ceasefire in Gaza; 200,000 Palestinians return home

KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the sustainability of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during remarks to reporters in the Oval Office.

According to CNN, Trump stated, “Everyone is tired of the war. Don’t forget, you had October 7, a terrible day when 1,200 people were killed, but Hamas lost 58,000. That was a significant death toll.”

In the meantime, following the end of hostilities and the implementation of the ceasefire, approximately 200,000 Palestinians have returned to their homes in northern Gaza from the southern regions.

The Gaza Health Ministry, however, reported that the number of casualties differs from Trump’s announcement, stating that 67,000 people have died.

On another note, Hamas has announced that the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza will be reopened by next week to facilitate the return of displaced Palestinians to their areas.

Reports indicate that after the withdrawal of Israeli occupying forces, Hamas fighters have been deployed to ensure security in certain parts of Gaza.
