Russia welcomes restoration of stability along the Durand Line

KABUL: The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced its support for the return of stability along the Durand Line between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

In a statement the ministry expressed concern over recent developments and unrest along the Durand Line, the Russian newspaper Izvestia reported on Monday night.

Moscow urged both Kabul and Islamabad to exercise restraint.

The statement noted, “The situation is stabilizing. We welcome this trend. We call on Kabul and Islamabad to demonstrate restraint and wisdom and to resolve any disputes through political and diplomatic means.”

The clashes between Afghan and Pakistani forces along the Durand Line earlier this week have drawn regional and global reactions.

Yesterday, the President of the United States also acknowledged being aware of the conflict and stated that efforts are being made to resolve the differences between Kabul and Islamabad.
