KABUL: In response to the recent military clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged both Kabul and Islamabad to prevent further escalation.
Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Ministry, in a statement on his X on Monday night mentioned that Beijing is ready to play a constructive role in “improving and expanding relations” between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Chinese Ministry emphasized that maintaining neighborly and friendly relations, pursuing economic and social development, and jointly combating terrorism are essential and long-term interests for both countries.
The statement read: “China sincerely hopes that the two countries, considering the broader interests, will maintain calm and restraint, resolve each other’s concerns through dialogue and consultation, prevent any escalation, and cooperate to ensure peace and stability in both countries and the wider region.”
Beijing has been closely monitoring the recent conflicts between Afghanistan and Pakistan and the tensions in their relations.
Notably, China, as a global power and a close ally of both Afghanistan and Pakistan, has previously acted as a mediator in improving relations between Kabul and Islamabad.
